Elise Denis-Ramirez Profile Photo

Elise Denis-Ramirez is a feminist researcher and consultant who works in gender and reproductive justice research and advocacy. Her diverse expertise covers sexual and reproductive health, abortion rights, gender-based violence and youth-led approaches across regions including Latin America, East and West Africa and the Middle East and North Africa.

Elise is committed to critically engaging in feminist participatory research and project work that is creative, gender transformative and intersectional. She aims to democratise research as praxis with a feminist commitment to researching with communities. Elise is inspired by and advocates for the use of participatory arts-based methods throughout the research process. She believes creative approaches can promote inclusivity by providing the opportunity for each participant to define their meaning of expression within the research methods.

Recently, she co-authored the forthcoming book chapter: Vivaldi & Denis-Ramirez (2024) Sexual and Reproductive Rights in Chile: Feminist Creativity, Strength, and Fight for Justice, in the edited book Transnational Visual Activism for Women’s Reproductive Rights: My Body, My Choice (2024 by Routledge)

Currently, Elise is a Doctoral researcher at the Open University. With a focus on feminist approaches, her PhD research explores the complexities of sexuality, autonomy, and abortion in Chile through co-production with young women. The research is carried out in partnership with the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and the IPPF Americas and Caribbean Office.

Elise is a co-founder of the Sex, Research & Resistance Podcast.

Previously, Elise specialised in gender, sexual and reproductive health and rights. She holds a MA of Human Rights Law from SOAS, School of Law, University of London, UK and a MSc of Public Health from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
